FDA is the acronym for Food and Drug Administration (Food and Drug Administration), an agency of the UK Responsible Person for regulating everything related to the health field (food, drugs, medical equipment, cosmetics,).
The FDA is responsible for:
- Protect public health by regulating drugs for human and veterinary use, vaccines and other biological products, medical devices, the US food supply, cosmetics, dietary supplements, and radiation-emitting products.
- Promote public health by promoting product innovations.
- Provide the public with the necessary, accurate, scientifically-based information that allows them to use medicines and foods to improve their health.
FDA's responsibilities extend to the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and other United States territories and possessions.
The FDA registration is a requirement that companies that are going to export the following products to the United States must meet:
- Food, except most meat and poultry products, which are regulated by the US Department of Agriculture.
- Food additives.
- Baby formula.
- Dietary supplements.
- Medicines for human use.
- Vaccines, other biological and blood products.
- Medical devices, from simple items such as tongue depressors to complex technologies such as pacemakers.
- Electronic products that emit radiation, such as microwave ovens and X-ray equipment.
- Food, medicine, and devices for pets, farm animals and other animals.
- Tobacco products.
